At Heywood Timber Engineering we’re working towards achieving the government goal for its 2050 Net Zero emissions targets for climate change agenda by providing the construction industry with sustainable building materials.
Timber is widely recognised as the world’s most sustainable and resourceful building material. Indeed, when managed correctly, timber is considered to be 100% renewable. So it’s no surprise that the use of engineered timber is playing a crucial role in driving down emissions within the built environment.
All our timber products are produced from sustainable wood, sourced from responsibly managed forests that are FSC registered. We also hold PEFC certification, which enables us to track the materials of our full supply chain from forest to our on-site customers. What’s more, all our products are CE marked and are amongst the most environmentally efficient on the market.
Working hand in glove with our customers, we are together developing the most sustainable buildings for homeowners throughout the country. Not only are timber framed homes built from the most sustainable materials from protected forests across Europe, they also help to contribute to slashing the carbon footprint for homeowners.
The Future Homes Standard is a criteria linked to energy efficiency that comes into play in the UK in 2025. The key purpose of the standard is to significantly reduce carbon emissions, with properties being built with 75% less carbon compared with existing regulations.

The nature of the timber frame construction method means timber frame homes far surpass the government’s targets for emissions. Achieving these levels with traditional construction methods would be impossible with equivalent cost, time and floor space
Timber frame builds have been calculated to lower emissions by 41% per m2
Timber has more low-embodied carbon than any other building material, locking the CO2 emissions deep within the framework of the structure. This far outweighs the emissions produced during the construction of the timber frame.
Timber Frame homes create airtightness and acoustic levels that far exceed the governments building regulation requirements
Using spandrel panels on site reduces the need to work at height for longer, improving the risk to on-site health and safety
